House of the Dragon prequel show in the works
House of the Dragon has a prequel series in development at HBO.
News of its existence comes from The Hollywood Reporter, with The Batman: Part II screenwriter Mattson Tomlin attached to bring Aegon Targaryen's Conquest to life on screen.
In the mythology created by author George RR Martin, Aegon, along with his sisters Rhaenys and Visenya, took control of six of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros with the help of dragons Meraxes, Vhagar and Balerion. Only Dorne resisted their power.

It's alleged that this project will take a "back to basics" approach to Martin's medieval fantasy universe.
Speaking of Martin, he provided an update on the various Game of Thrones spin-offs just last month on his blog.
"We have moved Nine Voyages, our series about the legendary voyages of the Sea Snake, over from live action to animation. A move I support fully," he wrote, before referencing the "budgetary constraints" that would occur.
"There's a whole world out there. And we have a lot better chance of showing it all with animation. So we now have three animated projects underway. Will any of them make it to air? happen? No way to know. Nothing is certain in Hollywood. But if it does happen, with one or two or all three shows, I hope we can make them as good as gorgeous and gripping as Blue Eye Samurai. We will for damn sure try."

Back in April 2023, HBO officially ordered a series based on Martin's Dunk and Egg stories; 'The Hedge Knight', 'The Sworn Sword' and 'The Mystery Knight'.
"A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros... a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg," its synopsis reads.
"Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends."
Game of Thrones seasons 1-8 are available on DVD and Blu-ray. House of the Dragon airs on HBO in the US, and on Sky Atlantic and NOW in the UK.
