The newly released trailer for House of the Dragon season 2 includes a Stark blink-and-you'll-miss-it character.

Set hundreds of years before the event of Game of Thrones, the spinoff prequel focusing on the Targaryen civil war returns for round two next month, and the new clip giving fans a glimpse of the current Lord of Winterfell, Cregan Stark.

Played by Tom Taylor, Cregan can be spotted at the 1:35 mark in the 'Black' trailer above, standing behind Rhaenyra's (Emma D'Arcy) son, Prince Jacaerys Velaryon (Harry Collett). The Stark lord is the son of the late Rickon Stark and appeared in season 1 of House of the Dragon when he pledged allegiance to a young Rhaenyra Targaryen (Milly Alcock) as the future queen of Westeros.

In the upcoming season, Jacaerys travels to Winterfell to seek support for his mother's claim to the Iron Throne, forging an alliance with Cregan.

Meanwhile, the Hightowers continue pushing for Rhaenyra's half-brother Aegon II Targaryen (Tom Glynn-Carney) to ascend to the throne after they usurped it for him in the previous chapter.

Those who are familiar with the books written by George RR Martin — and particularly Fire & Blood, which serves as the inspiration for House of the Dragon — know that Cregan is an enigmatic figure.

This is a result of Fire & Blood using different accounts of the same incidents, with some sources claiming Cregan and Jace struck an immediate friendship upon meeting in Winterfell. Another recounted Jace's infatuation with Sara Snow, Rickon's child out of wedlock, and how he was ultimately forced to marry her after they slept together.

House of the Dragon season 2 premieres on June 17, airing on Sky Atlantic and NOW in the UK and on HBO and streaming service Max in the US. Game of Thrones seasons 1-8 are available on DVD and Blu-ray.
