Hudson's Bay store at Devonshire closed for repairs to cooling system

The Hudson's Bay store at Devonshire Mall has been closed for about two weeks due to a problem with the cooling system.

The building has been at the Devonshire Mall since it opened in 1970. Several residents have contacted the CBC with concerns about the store's closure.

A company spokesperson tells CBC News the HVAC system has not been functioning properly but she says repairs are underway and they expect to be open next week.

"Our priority is always the comfort and wellbeing of our customers and associates. We continue to pay all full-time associates during the closure," said Tiffany Bourré, vice president for corporate communications, PR, Events, Social and Heritage for the Hudson's Bay Co.

"They've cancelled all shifts up until Monday and hopefully Monday [we'll] be there," Unifor Local 240 president Jodi Nesbitt said.

Casandra Mailloux attended the store on Thursday hoping to buy a dress for a wedding.

"I actually have a gift card in my bag right now, I'm going to a wedding this weekend and was hoping to get a dress and showed up and they weren't open," said Mailloux.

CBC News has reached out to Devonshire Mall but has not received a response.
