iQiyi debuts trailer for boys' love drama KinnPorsche, which will premiere on 2 April
Chinese-owned streaming platform iQiyi has picked up the highly anticipated Thai boys' love drama, KinnPorsche, as well as two new shows from Taiwan, Lesson In Love and Oh No! Here Comes Trouble.
KinnPorsche, a BL action series about a mafia boss and his bodyguard, stars Mile Phakphum Romsaithong (Ladytwenty, Khamin Rak Kap Poon) and Apo Nattawin Wattanagitiphat (Chart Suer Pun Mungkorn, Pra Teap Rak Hang Jai).
The drama, which is iQiyi's first Thai original series, is set to premiere globally on 2 April.
iQiyi debuted its trailer for KinnPorsche at the Hong Kong FILMART trade event, which was held virtually this year for the third time.
iQiyi also unveiled five Mandarin language series slated to arrive in 2022.
These included two more Chinese-language original productions from Taiwan on top of its flagship series announced last year.
The Taiwanese productions feature Edward Chen and Tseng Jing-hua, the breakout stars of the 2020 gay drama, Your Name Engraved Herein.
Lesson in Love stars Edward Chen in the lead role as a high school student who harbours feelings for a teacher played by Ann Hsu (The Victims’ Game, Tag Along). The cast also includes Hsueh Shih Ling, also known as rapper MC40.
Fantasy comedy, Oh No! Here Comes Trouble, stars Tseng Jing-hua as a student who emerges from a coma with supernatural powers and begins a monster-fighting adventure. Vivian Sung (Till We Meet Again) and Peng Cian (Nowhere Man) also star in this series.
Besides the above new shows, iQiyi confirmed the global launch of three flagship Chinese programmes: The Wind Blows From Long Xi, Love Between Fairy And Devil, and Love The Way You Are.
“iQiyi International app has received continuous support from our global audiences in 2021. As of the end of last year, our international user base has grown more than 3x as compared to 2020. Specifically in Thailand, we saw an almost 700% increase. The outstanding results owed its success to the increasing popularity of Chinese content which iQiyi will commit to leading and powering in the coming year,” said Michael Chen, Senior Vice President at iQiyi.
