IBM Malaysia has appointed Paul Moung as its new managing director, and will leverage his expertise in cloud to excel in this market.

IBM Malaysia recently announced a change of leadership, with its appointment of Paul Moung as the new managing director. He succeeds Ramanathan Sathiamutty, who is leaving the company to pursue other interests. This appointment is effective on April 1, 2013. Moung has an impressive line of positions in his career with IBM spanning 27 years.

During his career, Paul held several senior executive roles within the company, and was actually the first Asian to be appointed as general manager of IBN in Hong Kong in 1994. He was also GM for Software Group Asean/South Asia, VP for Storage Systems Group for Asia Pacific, VP for Systems & Technology Group/Business Partners for Asean/South Asia and VP for Systems & Technology Group, Japan.

Before being appointed as the new MD for IBM, he was the VP for Cloud and Smarter Planet, Growth Markets, which showed significant growth in cloud computing revenue. He was actively involved in creating cloud-enabled new business models for IBM clients and business partners in the healthcare, telecommunications and manufacturing industries. His efforts were further supported by Cordelia Chung, regional general manager who added that his diverse leadership experience with growth markets made him the perfect candidate to lead IBM Malaysia.

IBM has been active in expanding its investment efforts in the global delivery centres in Malaysia and collaborates with institutes of higher education. This allows the nurturing of high-value science and technology skills and talent in the country. Additionally, former MD Ramanathan Sathiamutty definitely laid a good foundation, having managed to lead IBM and assisted clients to capitalize emerging growth trends such as Smarter Commerce, Analytics and Smarter Cities.
