Idris Elba has found his next lead movie role in the form of Bang!, an upcoming thriller from Bullet Train director David Leitch.

Based on the comic series of the same name by Matt Kindt and Wilfredo Torres, Bang! follows the world's most famous spy, who is tasked with assassinating the author of a series of novels created by a terrorist cult who want to use the books to start the apocalypse.

Elba will portray the celebrated spy in the movie, which will premiere on Netflix. Kindt and Zak Olkewicz will write the script while Leitch will direct. Leitch is a seasoned big-budget movie director now after helming Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw and, most recently, Bullet Train.

Elba is certainly no stranger to blockbuster movies having starred in a slew of them himself. Last year, he played Bloodsport in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad, and has also starred in The Harder They Fall and The Dark Tower, amongst other high-budget features. He also worked with Leitch in Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, where he portrayed Brixton. Plus, Elba has starred as Heimdall in several MCU movies.

Bang! is one of a number of exciting projects Elba has coming up, with the feature film spin-off of Elba's acclaimed detective TV show Luther arriving later this year or possibly early next year, plus the Savanna-set thriller Beast is also coming out soon. That movie follows a father trying to protect his daughters while they are hunted by a lion.

Meanwhile, Leitch, who is a former stuntman himself, is directing the upcoming stuntman drama The Fall Guy, which stars Ryan Gosling in the lead role. Production on that movie is set to begin this month.
