Two contestants on I’m a Celebrity… South Africa discovered they had a real-world connection in tonight’s episode (April 27).

The opening segment of the episode saw musician Shaun Ryder be relocated to the Savannah Scrub camp at the request of Georgia ‘Toff’ Toffolo, who had secured a place at the more populated and lavish main camp.

As Shaun arrived at the basic outpost, he was greeted by singer Myleene Klass and Andy Whyment, and it turned out he had a lot in common with the Coronation Street actor.

As the pair got talking, they discovered that they grew up in the same area of Manchester and attended the same schools.

After the revelation, Andy, who plays Kirk Sutherland on the ITV soap, remarked: “And the mad thing is we live not far from each other and the first time we’ve met is in the jungle.”

The All-Stars series offers a slight twist to the usual format, with the cast including 'icons' from past I’m a Celebrity series and the omission of a public vote.

Former Corrie star Helen Flanagan recently spoke about her return to the jungle, saying the trials in the new series were “horrendous.”

“The trials are very, very difficult. You feel dirty, you can't have a shower,” she said. “I did one trial and I did think, 'I'd rather give birth right now!' I'm naturally a wimp, I'm scared of heights, spiders, snakes.

“I thought about it for a good two months before doing it,” she added. “That show is really hard, you watch at home you think, 'oh I could do that'. You have to be a certain kind of person, it is hell in there, it's horrendous.”

I'm a Celebrity… South Africa airs on Mondays-Fridays at 9pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
