Frankie Dettori has been nominated for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award, shortly after his appearance on I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!

The jockey, who recently took part in the 23rd season of the ITV reality series, is on a six-person shortlist for the prestigious prize.

Alongside Dettori, this year's contenders include Manchester United and England goalkeeper Mary Earps, one of this year's standout stars at the Women's World Cup, and cricketer Stuart Broad, who retired from the sport earlier this year.

They're joined by Katarina Johnson-Thompson, who won her second world championship heptathlon title this summer, and golfer Rory McIlroy, who was part of the Europe team's Ryder Cup victory in autumn.

The shortlist is completed by Alfie Hewett, who currently holds both the Australian Open and US Open singles titles in men's wheelchair tennis and is also the reigning wheelchair men's doubles champion at the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon.

The Sports Personality of the Year winner will be announced next week in a live BBC One broadcast following a public vote.

Dettori enjoyed a short stint in the jungle on the latest season of I'm a Celebrity, where he became the first campmate to be voted out on December 3.

Reflecting on his time on the show, the sportsman described it as "surreal".

"It's been so surreal. What an adventure... You forget there is a world outside. It's been so great," he said after his elimination.

"I've been dieting for 30 years, but this takes it to another level," he continued of the food he experienced during his stay in the jungle.

"I met some wonderful people and it's been a fantastic experience," Frankie added, picking Sam Thompson as his favourite to win the season.

Dettori's prediction was ultimately correct, as Thompson was crowned king of the jungle, while professional boxer Tony Bellew followed as runner-up.

"I didn't think I was ever going to be invited on this show!" was Thompson's reaction to his win.

On I'm a Celeb, the Made in Chelsea star had opened up on his ADHD and autism diagnoses which he received later in life, saying: "If I'd known as a kid, not much would have changed, but how you feel about yourself probably changes."

He continued: "I remember crying into my textbook because I couldn't understand the words going into my head. You want to do good. You don't want to be mischievous or anything like that."
