Imola Grand Prix Cancelled Amid Severe Flooding in Northern Italy

The Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, which was due to be held at Imola on May 21, has been cancelled by Formula One due to severe flooding that has hit northern Italy.

Stefano Bonaccini, president of the Emilia Romagna region, said on May 17 that at least eight people were killed in the flooding, with more people unaccounted for.

Thousands have been evacuated after over two months worth of rain fell in the space of 48 hours.

Italy’s national fire service, the Vigili del Fuoco, said 600 firefighters from all over the country had carried out at least 450 rescues across Emilia Romagna by May 17.
