Just 5 million followers separate the top five accounts on Instagram, with Taylor Swift followed by 10% of the photo-sharing platform's user base.

Until now, Facebook-owned Instagram has typically shyed away from any sort of network-wide account ranking, with third party sites like SocialBlade plugging the information gap.

Musician and pop culture icon Taylor Swift is attributed with 49.6 million follows, Kim Kardashian has 48.1m, Beyoncé 47.2, Selena Gomez 45.9m, and Ariana Grande 44.6m.

Each member of the current top five is female, observed The Verge, with four of them involved in pop music.
