[Interview] Joo Sang Wook says, "I've never received such a huge love"

Joo Sang Wook, who has casted in a great number of different dramas as a sharp and clever characters, completely shattered the image by casting in 'Cunning Single Lady' as one of the most clumsy guys around.

During an interview that was held in Seoul on May 12th, Joo Sang Wook talked about how it was to cast in 'Cunning Single Lady', and his future plan.

◇ Joo Sang Wook brings the 'clumsiness' out from deep inside for 'Cha Jung Woo'

Joo Sang Wook casted in 'Cunning Single Lady' as a clumsy guy named Cha Jung Woo, who does all he can in order to give difficulties to his ex-wife, Na Ae Ra(played by Lee Min Jung).

It is said that Joo Sang Wook actually dreamed of playing such a character, and put a lot of efforts to make a chance to do so.

Joo Sang Wook said, "I have never been that serious when acting. I never thought about ways to make viewers laugh. I was very serious about my part, and I am glad that many people enjoyed it. It was not an easy job, but I still enjoyed doing it very much."

He went on, "I personally think that I am a very bright person. I cannot say that 'Cha Jung Woo' is similar to me, but there are a few common factors."

◇ Joo Sang Wook shows another side of him...'No more sharp & clever characters'

Joo Sang Wook told that he was very glad to show another side of him through 'Cunning Single Lady', and told that he was very confident about the drama from long time ago.

Joo Sang Wook said, "I casted in the drama as a company's boss. I never had a chance to cast as a boss in the past, and I was very glad for my 'promotion'. It is not that I was unhappy about the characters that I played as in previous dramas, but I was very happy to show another side of me. I was also very happy for the positive reactions that many people showed for my work."

However, Joo Sang Wook confessed that he felt very pressured for the drama's program ratings. Joo Sang Wook said, "I felt a lot of pressure about the drama's program rating, because people might blame everything on me if the drama did not turn out successful. The program rating was not as high as I expected, but I still think that it did quite well."

He went on, "To be honest, I did not expect much for the first two episodes, because 'My Love From The Star' was still going on back then. I had a bit more of expectation for the 3rd episode, and the 3rd episode got relatively high program ratings. I started getting a bit excited, and started earning a lot of confidence."


◇ "90% for my collaboration with Lee Min Jung"

Joo Sang Wook has casted in a drama with Lee Min Jung back in 2008, and he got to have a reunion with her 6 years after since then.

Joo Sang Wook said, "She did not cast as my partner back then, but I knew her since then. We had a very comfortable start, and Min Jung also seemed to be enjoying her work very much even though she must have felt quite a bit of stress, because it was her first drama after getting married."

Regarding Seo Gang Jun, who became a superstar after casting in 'Cunning Single Lady', Joo Sang Wook said, "I had an acquaintance with Gang Jun before this drama, and when he casted in the 1st episode of 'Good Doctor', I told him the he is going to become a great actor."

Joo Sang Wook went on, "He might lack many things at the moment, but he is still very young, and he had a quite successful start. I think he is doing 100 times better than when I first debuted. He is a great young actor."


◇ No future plan decided yet.."Thank you for overwhelming love"

Joo Sang Wook has not made any decision for his sequel yet, but he told that he does not want miss any good characters while taking a break.

Joo Sang Wook said, "Nothing was decided about my next work, and I do not have any particularly type of character that I want to play."

He went on, "I still would go through a lot of thoughts and considerations even if I get to cast as someone just like Cha Jung Woo, and I will also try to draw something new out of it."

Joo Sang Wook lastly added, "I am feeling a profound gratitude for this overwhelming love that so many people are showing for me. I don't think I've ever seen people making such huge reactions for my work, and I feel very thankful for all the great compliments that they have made for 'Cunning Single Lady'. I will pay all of this back as soon as possible with a better work."
