Is Genshin Impact's Lisa still a good support character in 2023?

Lisa is often underrated because she's one of the starter characters, but she's a force to be reckoned with when built and used correctly

Genshin Impact gives every player starter characters when they first began the game. While most of them have been power-crept by the limited characters released after them, that doesn't mean they no longer have a place in your party.

In the case of the 4-star Electro catalyst user Lisa, she started out as a solid support character, but is now even more relevant following the release of Dendro and its myriad of elemental reactions.

It's only fitting that the Sumeru Akademiya's most promising graduate in centuries shines with the nation's element.

Whether as an off-field support or burst DPS, you shouldn't underestimate Lisa's potential just because she's a starter character. When built and utilized correctly, she'll be great addition to any team. Here's how you can unlock her full potential.

The Witch of Purple Rose

Lisa's playstyle will vary depending on which role she's taking for your team. Having her as your DPS will focus on her skill while putting her on a support role will make her burst more important.

Lisa's skill, Violet Arc, lets her channel the power of lightning to sweep bothersome matters away and will have different effects depending on whether you press or hold it.

When pressed, Violet Arc releases a homing Lightning Orb that deals Electro DMG and applies a stack of the Conductive status, up to a max of 3 stacks, to opponents hit in a small area-of-effect.

When held, Violet Arc will have en extended casting time, after which Lisa will release a lightning strike from above that deals massive Electro DMG to enemies in a wide area around Lisa. The held version of Violet Arc will deal extra damage to enemies based on the number of Conductive stacks applied to them.

While Lisa can hold Violet Arc for a maximum of 4 seconds, it actually needs only 2 seconds to charge in order to unleash its full attack. Holding it for 4 seconds doesn't do anything aside from locking you in the animation longer, so be efficient about using it to make your rotations smoother.

Keep an eye out for the circle that expands outward from Lisa's location when you hold your skill. Once it reaches its maximum distance and stops moving, you can stop holding the skill button down.

Lisa's burst, Lightning Rose, lets her summon a Lightning Rose that unleashes powerful lightning bolts to deal Electro DMG to nearby opponents over 15 seconds. Lightning Rose will continue attacking even if Lisa is off-field, making it a perfect for triggering elemental reactions and supporting other characters that need field time.

Lisa's A1 passive, Induced Aftershock, plays into her DPS capabilities by making her Charged Attacks apply stacks of the Conductive status to opponents. This is most useful for reapplying the Conductive status to opponents when your skill is on cooldown.

Meanwhile, Lisa's A2 passive, Static Electricity Field, makes Lightning Rose's attacks reduce the DEF of enemies it hits by 15% for 10 seconds. This is one of the best support talents in the game, as all other abilities that reduce or ignore enemy DEF are locked behind constellations and Lisa is the only one that has it in her base skillset.

When playing Lisa as your DPS, start your rotations by having your supports use their skills and bursts before switching to Lisa. Once Lisa on the field, use her burst then apply Conductive stacks to your enemies before unleashing the held version of your skill.

When playing Lisa as your support, she'll be the one using her burst before you switch to your main DPS. Once your DPS is done doing their thing, you can switch back to Lisa and use the held version of her skill to deal more damage and regain her energy.

Focus on Lisa's burst and skill when leveling up her talents. While a support Lisa won't need to level up her Normal Attacks, you can still go for them if she's your DPS.

Tempus Fugit: Lisa's best constellations

As one of the starter 4-star characters, Lisa's constellations can be reliably acquired through 'Paimon's Bargains' on the Starglitter Shop. Lisa's constellations are available every May and November alongside Bennett and the Blackcliff weapon series.

Lisa's best constellations are C4 and C6. Her C4, Plasma Eruption, lets Lightning Rose unleash up to 3 attacks whenever there is more than one enemy in its area-of-effect.

Meanwhile, her C6, Pulsating Witch, lets her apply the max amount of Conductive stacks to nearby enemies whenever she takes the field. With this effect able to occur every 5 seconds, it turns Lisa into a potent quickswap DPS that can quickly deal massive damage without taking up much field time.

Lisa's C1 and C3 are also good. The former lets her gain more energy from using Violet Arc while the latter increases the level cap of her burst.

With that said, Lisa is already a very good character at C0, unlike other 4-stars. Don't feel pressured to get her constellations as they cost Masterless Starglitter.

Lisa's best gear

Artifacts

Lisa's best weapons and artifacts will vary depending on whether she's taking on a DPS or support role.

Let's start with her best gear as a DPS. The best artifact sets for a DPS Lisa are the 4-piece Thundering Fury set or 4-piece Gilded Dreams set. Both perform similarly by increasing the damage dealt by Lisa's skills directly as well as any damage dealt by elemental reactions. With that said, the 4-piece Gilded Dreams set performs better when Lisa is played as an on-field Aggravate DPS.

Next up is the best gear for a support Lisa. The best artifact sets for her on this role will be the 4-piece Noblesse Oblige or 4-piece Emblem of Severed Fate. If you don't already have a character to carry the 4-piece Noblesse Oblige, then give it to your support Lisa. Otherwise, the 4-piece Emblem of Severed Fate is the way to go as it helps you use your burst as much as possible while also buffing its damage.

As for main stats, the main stat for your sands will be the only one that varies depending on your Lisa's role. If she's your DPS, go for either ATK% or Elemental Mastery, and if she's your support, go for Energy Recharge.

Your goblet should be Electro DMG Bonus while your circlet should be either Crit Rate or Crit DMG, whichever is lacking.

As for substats, additional Energy Recharge will be important regardless if your Lisa is a DPS or support. With that said, you can never go wrong with more Crit Rate, Crit DMG, Elemental Mastery, and ATK.

Weapons

The best weapons for a DPS Lisa will be the Kagura's Verity, which gives her tons of Crit DMG while also buffing the damage dealt by her skill. Other 5-star weapons you can go for are Lost Prayers to the Sacred Winds and A Thousand Floating Dreams.

For 4-star weapons, your best bets will be The Widsith or the Solar Pearl. Both have Crit substats and can outperform most other 5-star options at high refinement levels.

The best weapon for a support Lisa is hands-down the Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers. As with almost all catalyst supports, this weapon lets you give your DPS a massive ATK buff, 48% at R5 to be exact. You don't need to level it up either, as Lisa only needs its passive and has no use for its HP substat.

If, for some reason, you don't want to use or have Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers, good alternatives include the Favonius Codex, Hakushin Ring, and Prototype Amber.

Lisa's best teams

Due to her Elemental Mastery ascension stat, Lisa is particularly strong at dealing elemental reaction damage, especially Dendro-related ones, regardless of her role.

Aggravate: Lisa, Dendro, Anemo, Flex

The best team for a DPS Lisa, focusing on buffing her Electro DMG with the Aggravate reaction as well as through an Anemo support.

  • Dendro supports: Nahida, Yaoyao, Collei

  • Anemo supports: Kazuha, Venti, Sucrose, Jean, Sayu

  • Flex slot can be taken by additional Electro or Dendro characters or a shielder

Quickbloom: Lisa, Dendro, Hydro, Flex

This is a more versatile team that makes use of many reactions, though the main ones will be Quicken (into both Spread and Aggravate) as well as Hyperbloom.

  • Dendro: Nahida, Yaoyao, Collei (Lisa is DPS); Alhaitham, Tighnari (Lisa is support)

  • Hydro: Yelan, Xingqiu, Kokomi

  • Flex slot can be taken by additional Hydro or Dendro character

Spread: Lisa, Dendro, 2 Flex

This team will feature Lisa in more of a support role for a Dendro DPS, though she can still do a fair bit of damage with the occassional Aggravate proc.

  • Dendro DPS: Nahida, Alhaitham, Tighnari

  • Flex slots can be taken by additional Electro and Dendro characters

Superconduct: Lisa, Physical DPS, Cryo, Flex

This is another team where Lisa will be a support for a Physical DPS, whose damage will be buffed by the Superconduct reaction as well as the DEF shred from Lisa's burst.

  • Physical DPS: Eula, Razor, Physical Keqing

  • Cryo support: Rosaria, Diona, Layla, Qiqi, Kaeya

  • Flex slot can be taken by a shielder or another buffer

Lisa in Electro Hypercarry teams: Lisa replaces non-C6 Sara in Hypercarry comp

The DEF shred from Lisa's burst makes her the best support for an Electro Hypercarry team (like Raiden Hypercarry) if they don't have a C6 Kujou Sara.

  • Electro DPS (Raiden Shogun, Keqing, Yae Miko), Lisa, Bennett, Kazuha
