ITV drama Hatton Garden has become a trending hit on Netflix.

The four-episode series originally debuted on the broadcaster in 2019, and it follows the true story of the Hatton Garden robbery in London's diamond district.

The 2015 incident saw a team of OAP robbers break into the Hatton Garden Safety Deposit Company vault, stealing around £200 million in what became the biggest burglary in British history.

Since its recent addition to Netflix, the show is currently (as of May 9) sitting at number five in the Top 10 programmes in the UK.

Hatton Garden stars The Sixth Commandment's Timothy Spall, War & Peace's Kenneth Cranham and The Wonder's Brian F O'Byrne, with Philomena's Jeff Pope and Terry Winsor writing the show.

The series initially faced huge delays due to the ongoing court case over the real criminals, before it was eventually broadcast in 2019.

"They had to pull it, very late in the day," Pope told Digital Spy at the time. "It was a completely unconnected case, but we ran the risk of prejudicing it.

"You're caught in a trap, desperately trying to find a way out. You're thinking, 'Can we re-cut it?' But whichever way we turned, we were trapped, because the case involved Terry Perkins... and he's in almost every scene, so you can't cut him out!"

Director Paul Whittington further said of the series: "Audacious as that robbery was, and fascinated as we are by how they did it, fundamentally this is a character piece about these men and how their personal histories and different motivations ultimately pulled them apart. They self-destruct by the end of it."
