IU, B2ST, 2NE1 Win Big at 2011 Melon Music Awards
IU, B2ST and 2NE1 were the big winners of the night at the 2011 Melon Music Awards.
The three artists each took home a grand prize at the award show, which was held at the Olympic Park Gymnastics Stadium in Seoul on November 24.
IU won the Best Song Award for her hit Good Day, while idol groups B2ST and 2NE1 took home the Artist Award and Album Award, respectively.
Mnet Superstar K2 winner Huh Gak won the Rookie Award, This was particularly noteworthy, considering the fact that major networks are still not allowing the latest Superstar K contestants to appear on its channels.
Secret member Hyosung, who recently took a fall and injured herself, surprised guests and fans when she made an appearance at the award show with casts on her legs.
The winners of the award show, which is in its third year, are determined by music chart performance (80 percent), from December 1 of last year until October 31 of this year, and online votes (20 percent).
The Global Artist Award and the Songwriter Award, however, are decided executively by the awards committee, while the Netizen Popularity Award is determined by 50 percent music chart performance and 50 percent online votes.
The Popular Music Video Award is based on predetermined scores (40 percent), the awards committee’s selection (40 percent) and online votes (20 percent). Finally, MBC Plus Media selects the MBC Music Star Award winner.
