J. Lo & Timothée Chalamet Are No Match for ‘Bridgerton’ on Streaming | Charts

How do you know you have a bona fide streaming hit? Topping the streaming chart of the Samba TV Weekly Wrap Report for two weeks in a row is one indicator. Doing so while simultaneously beating out the highest-grossing theatrical release of the year to date and one of the biggest streaming premieres of the year? That’s a sign of a surefire smash.

The third season of “Bridgerton” accomplished those feats and sits atop the most-watched streaming programs for the week of May 20 to 26. Similarly impressive is that “Bridgerton” season 1, from 2020, is the sixth-most watched show this week. Clearly, fans were craving more of the historical romance series after two years without any new episodes.

Chief among “Bridgerton’s” competitors this week was another Netflix production, “Atlas,” which is No. 2 this week. The Jennifer Lopez sci-fi film was seen in 1.9 million households over the first four days it was available (including the holiday Monday, May 27). This makes it the third-most watched streaming movie of 2024 to date within the four-day premiere window, following “Lift” (Netflix)  and “Road House” (Amazon Prime Video).

Coming in at No. 3 for the week is “Dune: Part Two,” which was added to Max on May 21. The latest installment of the sci-fi saga is the most successful film at the box office so far this year, having grossed $282 million. Its success continued on streaming, with 1.0 million U.S. households tuning in over the first week it was available.

Moving beyond the blockbusters, it was another big week for Netflix, which claimed the next four spots in the Top 10. In fourth is the workplace comedy “Tires.” That’s followed by the romantic comedy “Mother of the Bride” in its third consecutive week on the chart. Season 1 of “Bridgerton” slots in next, followed by the animated children’s book adaptation “Thelma the Unicorn” at No. 7.

“Under the Bridge” on Hulu is No. 8 this week. The true-crime book adaptation added its penultimate episode to streaming on May 22, pushing it onto the charts. It’s followed by “The Sympathizer” on Max, which continues to hang around the lower half of the streaming chart as new episodes are added every week. Finally, at No. 10 this week is “Ashley Madison: Sex, Lies & Scandal,” a documentary about how the dating site for people seeking affairs was hacked.

Switching to the linear chart, “American Idol” wrapped its 22nd season last week, so it was time for “The Voice” to shine. The 25th season of NBC’s singing competition ended this week, and that helped it to three showings on the linear chart, holding down the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, along with No. 7.

Finales were a big theme this week across the linear Top 10. At No. 3, “Survivor” wrapped its 46th season on May 21. That’s followed by “Chicago Med” and “Chicago Fire,” which aired their respective season finales on NBC on May 22.

Not to be outdone by “The Voice,” the consummate favorite “Wheel of Fortune” claims three spots of its own as it approaches what may be the biggest finale of them all: long-time host Pat Sajak has announced that he’ll spin the wheel for the last time on June 7.
