Jack Neo modifies Money No Enough 3 title at wife's suggestion; iconic theme song to also get makeover

The Singapore director also praised co-star Henry Thia's acting in the latest instalment, adding that it might be better than Golden Horse-nominated Mark Lee's.

The third movie in the Money No Enough franchise might be rather timely, considering the increasing cost of living, but its title might be a little too pessimistic. Which is why director Jack Neo modified the Mandarin title at suggestion of his wife.

The film, which is a sequel to the 2008 comedy of the same name, is slated to premiere on 1 Feb, just before the Lunar New Year celebrations. The translation of the Mandarin title now reads as Money No Enough 3: It’s All Enough (钱不够用3: 全部够用), but Yahoo Southeast Asia understands that the English title of Money No Enough 3 remains the same.

It was reported by Lianhe Zaobao that the title was changed with the hope that it can bring some joy and positivity in the sluggish economy, and it was also to wish everyone a good Lunar New Year.

Speaking to the Chinese paper about the change, Neo, 63, said, “After we filmed the movie, my wife was worried that the old name will affect us, so we decided to change it.”

That’s not the only thing about the franchise getting a makeover. The iconic theme song will have a new spin on it, according to Neo, and there is a music video in the works.

Neo added, “It will be very fun and interactive. We hope that after the MV is released, it will attract more viewers to watch the movie.”

The film will also reunite the original trio of Neo, Mark Lee, and Henry Thia. And, Neo praised Thia’s acting in this instalment and said he performed better than Lee, who is a Golden Horse Best Actor nominee.

He said to the Chinese daily, “Mark has met his match. Henry’s performance this time is better than his. He might really win the Golden Horse Award for Best Supporting Actor. We didn't intentionally plan for Henry’s role to be like that, but he is really amazing.

“Of course, Mark also acted well and I hope they can both win awards for this movie.”
