Jacky Cheung says "Devoted to You" changes his life

1 Apr - A film may have the power to change a person's life, whether you're the audience or the star – and it did so to Hong Kong star Jacky Cheung, who admitted that it was his first film that changed his life completely.

As reported on Oriental Daily, the actor, who appeared as a guest at the Academy for Performing Arts forum, "My Life as a Film Actor: Jacky Cheung in Conversation with Shu Kei", stated that one of his first movies, the 1986 "Devoted to You", is where he met the love of his life, May Lo.

"This is an important lesson. When you take everything seriously like it's a real thing [when you're in a movie], something would happen," he said, light-heartedly.

Jacky continued, "At the time I was clueless. I thought I have to take everything seriously and it had to be real. I was young at the time, so it influenced my life. I really fell in love."

Jacky revealed that he was unable to get out of character, and ended up dating May in real life. It was a long-lasting one as well, as they tied the knot in 1996 after ten years.

The couple is blessed with two daughters, Yiu Wah, 16 and Yiu Huen, 11.

The actor added that he is more mature in his acting now, and knows how to control his reality and his character in a movie.

"Now regardless of how many times I kiss my co-star, I know everything would end when the movie ends. But at the time, I didn't know how," he said
