The actor hosted 'SNL' for the first time this weekend, accompanied by musical guest Reneé Rapp
The Saltburn actor, 26, hosted this weekend’s episode of the comedy sketch show, the first of 2024, which opened with a monologue where Elordi discussed his hit movie Saltburn and even gave the audiences a taste of a particularly raunchy scene from the movie.
Beginning his monologue by saying how "exciting" it was to be at SNL and describing himself as "hosting the first, and so far best, show of 2024," Elordi then discussed the hit movie, in which he played the character of Felix Catton.
"So you might know me from Saltburn," he continued, adding, "not from seeing the film, just from seeing the TikToks, like this scene..."
At that point, a particularly sexual scene from the movie, which featured a naked Barry Keoghan —who played the role of Oliver Quick — on top of a grave, appeared on screen, prompting laughter and cheers from the studio audience.
"I was the one in the grave," Elordi explained. He then thanked those who had watched the movie, before throwing out to the audience to ask him any questions they might have. After various SNL castmembers sitting in the audience hit the actor with queries, he wrapped up his monologue by saying how "grateful" he was to be hosting.
"Before we start I just want to take a moment to say how grateful I am to be here," he said, adding, "I've been acting now for like seven years and it's so easy to get caught up in the rush of trying to get to the next thing and the next thing. But tonight... the people... I love it here, you all are here, and because if you I'm here. So thank you, thank you so much," he said.
Elordi also appeared in various sketches during the show, including one where he advised aspiring actors, which included Rachel McAdams playing an actress who looked like McAdams. The Mean Girls actress had earlier made a surprise cameo to introduce musical guest Reneé Rapp.
Ahead of the Saturday show, cast member Bowen Yang filmed a promo for the episode with Elordi and Rapp. In the clip, Yang quipped to Rapp, "Reneé, you are so right. He is so babygirl."
"Me? I'm a babygirl?" Elordi then asked the Las Culturistas host.
Wednesday's initial promo revealed Elordi’s case of stage fright — or stair fright, as he found himself unable to climb down the three steps leading to the mainstage. “
“They all make it look so easy,” the Euphoria star muttered to himself between rapid cuts of prior hosts’ entrances, including Kim Kardashian and Zac Efron. An ‘80s-style training montage of Elordi’s attempts to crawl and slide down the stairs plays as cast members Marcello Hernández and Punkie Johnson hype him up.
“You got it buddy,” Hernández encouraged, while Johnson added, “Let’s go, J.”
In one final try, Elordi rehearsed a gracious entrance, only to faceplant at the foot of the stairs after his shoe caught on the landing.
“I’m good, I’m good,” the Priscilla actor groaned, still on the ground.
Last month, SNL announced Elordi as its first host of 2024, with Rapp to accompany as the musical guest. He reposted the iconic SNL corkboard on Instagram, earning reactions from stars like Sofia Coppola and Rachel Zegler.
It also comes after the U.S. theatrical release of his crime drama He Went That Way on Jan. 5, where he plays a killer hitchhiker hunting Zachary Quinto.
His busy schedule continues into 2024, where he will appear in the dramas On Swift Horses and Oh, Canada. In addition, he’s been tapped to play Frankenstein’s monster opposite Oscar Isaac in a Guillermo del Toro-directed Netflix film of Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel.
Saturday Night Live airs Saturdays at 11:30 p.m. ET on NBC.
