Jake Gyllenhaal Teases Possible Marriage to Girlfriend Jeanne Cadieu: 'I'm Not Going to Give You Timing'

The actor and French model have been linked since 2018, and have not officially confirmed their engagement

There may be wedding bells in Jake Gyllenhaal's future!

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Gyllenhaal, 43, was asked when he and longtime girlfriend Jeanne Cadieu plan to say "I do" — and he had a playful response.

“I’m supposed to tell The Hollywood Reporter that?” the actor joked, adding, “I’m not going to give you timing.”

But, he added, “I think we all get into that space of work, work, work, and for a long time my career took precedence, but I’m at a point in my life where I realize that family really is the only thing that matters to me.”

If the Donnie Darko star and French model — who were first romantically linked in late 2018 — do tie the knot in the near future, one thing is certain: a delicious wedding menu.

The pair loves to cook together, Gyllenhaal told The Hollywood Reporter, noting that they recently enjoyed a day of dessert tasting together at KCRW’s Good Food PieFest & Contest in Los Angeles.

“We got tickets a month and a half early,” the actor said of the event, which he added was a recent favorite date. “I was like, ‘Babe, we can go! We can go to the pie contest!’ ”

Cadieu and Gyllenhaal, who keep their relationship very private, made their red carpet debut in September 2021 at the premiere of The Lost Daughter, a film directed by the actor’s sister, Maggie Gyllenhaal.

The couple has made several more public appearances since, including the Paris premiere of Gyllenhaal’s film Ambulance, and a 75th-anniversary screening of The Innocent at the Cannes Film Festival.

More recently, Cadieu joined her actor beau for a special London screening of his Road House remake in March 2024.

Speaking about the couple’s shared distaste for the spotlight in October 2021, Gyllenhaal said on The Howard Stern Show that Cadieu doesn't seem to enjoy "​​all the other stuff" that comes with fame.

"That's part of the reason why I just adore her," he said, clarifying that it's "not at all the main reason but, you know, one of them."

Also on The Howard Stern Show, Gyllenhaal revealed that the couple’s first joint red carpet appearance was unplanned — and was actually orchestrated by his older sibling.

"My sister grabbed her, pulled her on that red carpet, which I think neither of us are really inclined to, you know, go on — even me," the star admitted. "And to be there to support my sister was what we're there to do and I was like, 'Oh yeah, this is family.' "

Gyllenhaal previously called his relationship with Cadieu "wonderful" during a chat with PEOPLE in September 2023. "We are private, but I guess we are who we are," he said at the time. "We're just living our lives. We always have.”

“And I love that people are interested,” he added, “but at the same time, it's like what's ours is ours.”
