Jamie Carragher names the two signings Arsenal must make to win Premier League title

Jamie Carragher believes Arsenal are just two players short of winning the Premier League.

The Gunners pushed eventual champions Manchester City all the way but ultimately proved unable to stop Pep Guardiola’s side winning an unprecedented fourth consecutive title.

Having come so close, Mikel Arteta’s side are expected to be busy in this summer’s transfer market.

Co-chairman Josh Kroenke vowed “no one at the club will stand still” and Standard Sport understands Arteta is in line for more backing.

Arsenal are keen on a new striker, with RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko strongly admired after scouting missions amid reports the 21-year-old has agreed a move to the Emirates Stadium.

The signing of a midfielder is also thought to be on the agenda and all of Amadou Onana, Bruno Guimaraes and Martin Zubimendi of Everton, Newcastle and Real Sociedad respectively have been watched.

A new defender is also desired, with the club ideally targeting a player who can operate on the left side. Jorrel Hato of Ajax is on Arsenal’s radar, while Feyenoord’s Quilindschy Hartman is interested in a move to north London despite being tracked by Chelsea.

Carragher in fact believes the club only need to sign a new forward and a left-back in order to get over the line next season.

He told The Metro: “They need a left-back and I think they need a great attacker.

“Not necessarily a centre-forward. People keep saying they need a goalscorer. Sometimes you can have a goalscorer who plays wide.

“[Mohamed] Salah is like that for Liverpool. [Sadio] Mane was like that in the past. I just think they need another top attacking player to go alongside Bukayo Saka.

“Then one of the others can fill the other role – Martinelli, Trossard or Havertz. If they got another top attacker, you look at those five or six names, it is pretty tasty.”
