Jane McDonald has commented on a spoof picture that says she has been appointed secretary of state for cruise ships and entertainment.

Created as a parody to comment on the latest government cabinet reshuffle, McDonald laughed at the mock-up which is a reference to her show Cruising with Jane McDonald.

The former Loose Women panellist tweeted the picture along with a caption which read: "This is hilarious! A number of people have got in touch to congratulate me on this – just to confirm that it isn’t real. Someone put it on social media as a joke!"

A number of other satirical pictures have been created including one of Gail Platt from Coronation Street which says she has been appointed minister of state for marriage, food, families and canals.

Another also had Pat St Clement from EastEnders appointed as deputy prime minister and secretary of state for earrings and fashion.

McDonald had previously suggested that she was going to be working less as she wanted to spend more time with her family.

Speaking to Kaye Adams on her podcast, McDonald said: "I want to be here for my family. My niece is just about to have a baby and we’re all very excited about that. I want to be around for them all.”

The BAFTA winner continued: "I think it's made me realise actually, how many summers have we got left. And I want to do so much. I want to go on holiday, instead of filming one."

Since those comments, McDonald has announced a new project with Channel 5, the home of her popular cruise holiday show.

A few weeks ago, she told her fans on Instagram: “Hi everyone! We’re back filming again for Channel 5, we’re all looking forward to it. It’s the first day of filming today and I definitely, definitely, definitely have the best job in television.”

Before moving into TV through the documentary series The Cruise, McDonald had a singing career on cruise ships.
