Janine Berdin is being treated for Cushing's Syndrome

31 Oct – After months of absence from the small screen, singer Janine Berdin recently went on social media to reveal the reason for her hiatus from showbiz.

As reported on ABS-CBN, the "Tawag ng Tanghalan 2" winner posted a message on Instagram revealing that she was absent from shows like "It's Showtime" and "ASAP Natin 'To" after taking a break to treat her vocal nodules issue and subsequently being diagnosed with Cushing's Syndrome.

"Early in September, we found out I had vocal nodules, so I had to be exposed to cortisol or steroids to cure it. Because of this exposure to cortisol, I had Cushing's Syndrome and am currently being treated for it," she wrote.

She revealed that the condition was also the reason for the swelling of her face.

The 17-year-old, however, assured that she will continue to perform as it is still her craft.

"I give my respect to all artistes who don't just easily conform," she added.

Berdin also apologised to her fans, saying that there might be some changes in her physical appearance because of her condition.

"With everything said, I hope you forgive me if I'm not visually up to par with your standards anymore or ever since; you can unfollow me, but I will still sing. And I will never stop singing. Because that is what I want, what I have hoped for, and I am," she stated.

According to National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, Cushing's syndrome is a disorder that occurs when your body makes too much of the hormone cortisol over a long period of time.
