Jaques closing in on century

Phil Jaques

Phil Jaques made brisk progress as Yorkshire sought victory over LV= County Championship Division Two rivals Gloucestershire at Bristol.

Needing another 370 runs on the final day to wrap up their second win of the season, they reached 148 for three at lunch.

Adam Lyth was the first of the two wickets to fall on the final morning when he was trapped leg before wicket by Ian Saxelby for 36.

Jaques and captain Andrew Gale shared in a 55-run stand for the fourth wicket before the latter went for 21, caught by Graeme McCarter off the bowling of Ed Young.

However, Jaques (73no) and Gary Ballance (nine not out) saw the White Rose through to the interval without further concern.

Leicestershire, chasing 341 runs to beat Northamptonshire at Grace Road, took lunch on 53 for two.

After the hosts had declared their first innings and the visitors forfeited their second, Leicestershire lost Greg Smith and Kadeer Ali cheaply before Matthew Boyce (28no) and Ramnaresh Sarwan (12no) teamed up.

Hampshire declared on their overnight 352 for eight and Derbyshire reached 127 for three in reply at Southampton, with Wes Durston (69no) and Dan Redfern (37no) contributing an unbroken 90.
