Jason George to return to “Grey's Anatomy” following end of “Station 19”

Ben Warren is getting back to his surgical roots.

Ben Warren is coming home!

Jason George first played the surgical resident in Grey's Anatomy's sixth season and quickly became a beloved character — both to fans and to Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson), who would go on to marry him. But Ben eventually decided he wanted to try something a little different, and his foray into firefighting helped launched the spinoff series Station 19. For the past seven seasons, George has led that show, which of course featured the occasional — often very bloody — crossover with Grey's.

But now that Station 19 has come to an end, George is set to return to Grey's Anatomy in season 21 as a series regular, Entertainment Weekly has confirmed.

As Station 19 fans saw, Ben started to use his medical skills more and more toward the end of the show's run, until he ultimately figured it was time for him to return to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital and finish his surgical residency. (Or perhaps he's just now recovered from that time he had to perform an emergency C-section on April at Meredith's house and is ready to give medicine another shot.)

It's not yet known how Ben will play into the larger season story, but given how season 20 ended, the hospital is certainly in need of some staff.

As for those Station 19 fans holding out hope for the show to be saved, well, this isn't a great sign.
