Jay Chou fan barred from entering Taiwan

21 Jan – A middle-aged fan of singer-songwriter Jay Chou has been barred from entering Taiwan for five years after wandering off from her tour group to find the singer.

As reported on Taipei Times, the police revealed that the 45 year-old fan, known as Chen, who accompanied her father on a tour to Taiwan, went missing from her group while in Greater Kaohsiung on 10 January to meet her idol.

Chen reportedly took a high-speed rail train to Taipei with her father, and left him at the Mackay Memorial Hospital in Tamsui saying that he needed treatment.

She later checked into a hotel in Zhongshan District and went to Jay's record company, JVR Music on Changchun Road the next morning in hopes to meet him there.

When told that Jay was not in the building, she bought a ticket to David Tao's concert at the Taipei Arena, believing that the singer will be making a guest appearance. Upon realising that Jay was not there, she wandered around Taipei Arena where she was later detained by the security guards.

On 12 January, Chen was sent to the National Immigration Agency for further questioning, where she explained to the officials that she wanted to meet her favourite singer. It was admitted by her tour guide, who stated that Chen had argued with other tourists when they refused to meet Jay Chou.

Chen and her father were deported to China the next day, and the former has been banned from applying visa to Taiwan for the next five years.
