Jenna Lyons 'Genuinely Doesn't Know' Whether She'll Return to “The Real Housewives of New York City”

"I don't have an answer," the Brovolebrity said

Jenna Lyons' future on The Real Housewives of New York City is still undecided.

During a visit to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday, the Loveseen Lashes founder and former J.Crew president continued to play coy about whether she'd be in front of the Bravo cameras again for season 2, dodging the host's questions when asked "Are you coming back?"

"When do you want me to come?" Lyons, 55, said, to which Fallon, 49, clarified, "No, Real Housewives — are you doing it? Are you doing another season?"

"No, I thought I was going to be hosting [The Tonight Show] with you," she said.

As he continued to press, Lyons did not give in. "I don't know, what do you think?" she asked. "I don't have an answer. I genuinely don't know."

Audiences at Studio 6B appeared to encourage it, cheering for Lyons to "do it," much to her smiles. "They want you to do it. They love you!" Fallon noted as she told the crowd, "Thank you."

Before that, Lyons told Fallon that doing the show was "hard" but that she was grateful for the passionate Bravo viewers.

"People have been lovely," she said. "The things I did not realize about that show — and for anyone who is a fan, like, thank you — [but] people have been so nice. Like, I get stopped everywhere and people yell across the street, 'I love you, Jenna!' And I'm like, 'I love you, too!' I have a lot of relationships going on right now. Like, people feel like they’re friends."

Since the final part of the reunion aired on Oct. 29, questions have been surfacing about whether Lyons would return to the show. She had made no secret about her discomfort with being on reality TV, even telling RHONY executive producer Andy Cohen during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen in October that her "thorn" of the season was "the whole show."

"I really thought I was going to have an easier time," she said. "It was hard! It's shocking how, when the camera's actually on you … I thought I could handle it and, you know, I couldn't."

Similar anxieties were expressed throughout RHONY's run. "I thought I was going to do better," she admitted on The View in July, explaining that the show didn't help her get more comfortable with female friendships. "I had this idea, 'Oh, I've been at the helm of a very large company. I've worked with a lot of people.' But what I realized is, I paid all those people. [That's] really different. Everyone listens to you and likes what you say when you pay them!"

"This has been a different experience for me," she added. "And I'm not good in groups. Like, I'm good one-on-one and I will tell you everything and I want to hear everything about you. [In groups], I sit in a corner and then I look aloof."

That can lead to criticisms from costars and fans alike, which Lyons certainly experienced this season, many calling out her unwillingness to share her then-girlfriend on the show. The two have since split, but it's unclear if her new partner, Cass Bird, would be open to participating.

Fueling speculation that Lyons wouldn't be back was the fact that she skipped a cast dinner with show executive producer Lisa Shannon over the weekend.

She was also absent at BravoCon 2023 in Las Vegas earlier this month, the only one of her castmates not to show. On the RHONY panel, Whitfield explained that Lyons was "at an event" and "apologizes that she could not be here." But Lyons joked to Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet of the CFDA Fashion Awards, "I had some things to do; I said some really important things to do, like twiddle my thumbs."

Bravo typically does not announce any casting decisions, and had no official comment about Lyons' potential return when reached by PEOPLE.

Even Cohen doesn't seem to know whether Lyons will come back for another season. Asked in October by a caller into his SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live, he said: "I hope so, I hope so. She, you know, I think her girlfriend is a little camera shy, so that’s a challenge. But I do. I really hope she does."

He went on to praise Lyons on the show, agreeing with the caller that he'd like to see, moving forward, more of her interactions with her 17-year-old son, Beckett Mazeau, whom she shares with ex-husband Vincent Mazeau.
