"So I packed it and the day before we left the trip, I was like, 'Something feels very familiar about this feeling and let me just take this test.' I did. And when pregnant came up, my jaw dropped," Ushkowitz recalls, joking that she wishes she had footage of the moment. "I was shocked. And then overjoyed, of course."

When it came time to tell her partner, Ushkowitz says she "didn't have to say anything."

"He was upstairs, and so he came down the stairs, I still had a look of shock on my face and he was like, 'No way,' " she remembers. "He just knew and he was just so, so happy. We were so excited for our daughter to be a big sister and to expand our family. It's just really, really special."

As for her 2-year-old daughter Emma, Ushkowitz says that while she "understands that there's a baby in mommy's belly," she doesn't have a full grasp of the situation.

"She says, 'I'm a big girl. I'm a big sister.' And she understands baby. So to an extent, she knows what's going on. She'll figure it out real soon," Ushkowitz shares.

In her first pregnancy, Ushkowitz was lucky to have a "really easy" journey and notes that this time around has been an "extraordinarily different experience."

"It was truly like a head-spinning experience of how different it was. And it's just such a good lesson that every pregnancy truly is different," she says. "You're not going through the same journey every time because every kid is different. And so it was definitely something that I didn't expect at all."

This time, Ushkowitz says she's feeling "more relaxed" and "more confident" in her pregnancy journey.

"I think the biggest lesson I learned with having my daughter was you really have to go with the flow. And so I'm just going to listen to that, release the control, and kind of just go with where the tide takes you."

While she still has some time before welcoming her newest little one, Ushkowitz already has a few things she's looking forward to.

"Newborn snuggles are the best, but I'm really just looking forward to seeing my daughter become a big sister and just feeling like our family is whole," the expectant mom says. "Just looking forward to that feeling."
