Jennifer Hudson offers rare update on romance with Common: 'Everything is wonderful'

The duo first sparked relationship rumors in 2022.

Jennifer Hudson isn’t one to kiss and tell, but she isn’t above teasing fans with relationship news.

While attending the 2024 Daytime Emmy Awards on Friday, Hudson offered a rare update on her romance with Common.

“Everything is wonderful,” Hudson told PEOPLE. “That's all you need to know.”

Back in January, the couple all but confirmed their rumored romance when Common appeared on The Jennifer Hudson Show. Not only did he gift the eponymous host with a bouquet of flowers, he later engaged in romcom-esque antics when he sat on the interview couch and was asked if he was seeing anyone special.

"I'm in a relationship that is with one of the most beautiful people I've met in life," Common said. "She's smart, she loves God, she has something real down-to-earth about her. She's talented." He added that his love interest has an EGOT, won an Oscar for her first movie, and has her own talk show — leaving fans a trail of easily connected dots.

As for Hudson, she simply said, “I'm dating this brother, and I am very happy.”

Common later reflected on the talk show appearance days later, during an interview on Today with Hoda & Jenna.

“We had a little fun and it’s great to be on The Jennifer Hudson Show,” he said. “I felt like, man, why not just be loving and honest with who I am and who we are? And it felt good.”

When Hoda Kotb asked Common if he considers himself “the marrying type,” the rapper made his interest in eventually walking down the aisle clear.

“I feel like I have grown and the work that I have done on myself has allowed me to see that I am a marrying type,” he shared. “I am the type that, I’m capable and I have the capacity, and if at some point in my life I may want to do that, I would know when the right time is.”

Hudson and Common have continued to keep their relationship relatively lowkey, though eagle-eyed fans have caught sight of the duo courtside at basketball games and having date nights in their shared native city of Chicago.

The couple initially sparked dating rumors back in 2022, after working on their 2024 film, Breathe together.
