When you have Jennifer Nettles' voice and a guitar, what else do you need?

During an interview on Tuesday's episode of Today with Hoda and Jenna, the Sugarland musician and recent Emmy winner expressed interest in making an acoustic album.

"I would love an acoustic album. I would love to do that," said Nettles, 49. "I have thought about that for awhile and am waiting on the right time, because that would be so meaningful for me, to strip things down."

She referenced one of Sugarland's singles from 2006's Enjoy the Ride album as a precursor to a potential acoustic project. "When you think about 'Stay' for example, that's all it was — a guitar and vocals," explained the country star. "I think there's a lot of real soul in that."

Aside from her work alongside Kristian Bush in the Grammy-winning duo, Nettles has released four solo albums: 2014's That Girl, 2016's Playing with Fire and To Celebrate Christmas as well as 2021's Always Like New.

The "Babe" singer has spent time in the film and television world as of late, acting in projects including the 2023 horror film The Exorcist: Believer and HBO's The Righteous Gemstones. She also hosts Fox's Farmer Wants a Wife and crafted the song "Life Is Sweet" alongside Bill Sherman for PBS' American Anthems — winning outstanding original song at the 50th Daytime Creative Arts & Lifestyle Emmy Awards earlier this year for the track.

Elsewhere in Nettles' Today interview, she spoke about her current career "momentum" and upcoming projects, such as a role in the Prime Video series The Bondsman alongside Kevin Bacon and a developing Broadway musical about Italian professional poisoner Giulia Tofana.

"I feel that momentum and that energy in my career and in my life — and especially when you decide to have a family, pacing changes a bit, and you make different decisions of where you want to spend your time," said Nettles, who shares one child (son Magnus Hamilton, 11) with Justin Miller. "As our kids get older, we look at it, and we say, where do I want to be now?"

Ahead of her 50th birthday in September, she opened up about how she feels at the current stage of her life. "I feel great, I feel blessed. I like to say health is wealth, and it’s interesting that we do get older we start to focus on that in a different way," added Nettles. "I feel all of us are reaching a different stride, a new stride. It feels also strange, like the number doesn’t match how I feel."
