Jeremy Renner joins Knives Out 3 in first film role post accident

Jeremy Renner is the latest name to join the star-studded cast of the upcoming Knives Out murder mystery from writer-director Rian Johnson.

Titled Wake Up Dead Man, the film is the third whodunit in the acclaimed film saga starring Daniel Craig as sleuth Benoit Blanc.

Eagle-eyed fans may remember that *technically* Renner has made a Knives Out appearance before in second film Glass Onion, where he was the face of a fictional brand of hot sauce.

Plot details for movie number three are being kept under wraps, but it is known that Wake Up Dead Man is expected to roll into cinemas sometime in 2025.

The Marvel star is set to appear alongside Craig, as well as Knives Out newcomers Andrew Scott, Glenn Close, Kerry Washington, Cailee Spaeny and Josh O'Connor.

Johnson's third Knives Out film marks Renner's first film role since his snowplough accident in January 2023.

The Clint Barton actor suffered a tragic accident when helping his nephew tow his car out of the snow in Reno, Nevada. He was struck by a snowplough, experiencing major blood loss, blunt chest trauma and thirty broken bones.

Speaking recently about the incident, Renner shared it had a lasting impact on him and that he thinks about it "every night".

"I relive it every night," he told the Los Angeles Times earlier this month. "It's in my visions. It's in my dreams and my waking thoughts."

"The doctor said I even broke my taint. How do you break a taint?" he continued.

Renner returned to work in January 2024 to reprise the role of Mike McLusky in the second season of Paramount+ crime drama Mayor of Kingstown. The series is about to debut new episodes, with season 3 expected to drop on the streaming platform on June 2.

Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery will hit cinemas in 2025.
