Jeremy Renner Reveals He Turned Down “Mission: Impossible” Role to Spend Time with Daughter: ‘I Gotta Be a Dad’

The Marvel star, 53 is dad to Ava, 11, with ex Sonni Pacheco

Jeremy Renner is on a mission to prioritize his daughter.

On the Tuesday, June 4 episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the Marvel star, 53, told host Josh Horowitz that he was asked to reprise his role of William Brandt in Mission: Impossible — Fallout, but turned it down to spend time with his 11-year-old daughter Ava, who he shares with ex Sonni Pacheco.

“There [was] no schedule, so I can’t go out for a year and a half. I gotta go be a dad,” he shared. “I can’t just move my daughter out here because [her] mom is — you know, I was landlocked out here. I couldn’t film overseas anymore.”

Renner also shared that he was asked to travel overseas for a week just for his character to get killed off the franchise.

“I remember they tried to bring me overseas] for a week so they could kill my character, and I was like, ‘No, you don’t get to do that. You’re not going to drag me over there and just kill my character,’ like get out of here!” Renner recalls.

He adds, “If you’re going to do this and you’re going to use my character, you’re going to do it right.”

The actor then confesses that he “yelled at Chris” for trying to kill his character, referring to the film’s director Christopher McQuarrie.

Renner did add some good news for Mission: Impossible fans, sharing, “When my daughter’s older, maybe there’s more of an opportunity do something.”

The Hawkeye star recently celebrated daughter Ava’s 11th birthday.

He shared a Reel on his Instagram in celebration of his favorite girl’s special day. In the rare video of the father-daughter pair, Ava had her arms around Renner, hugging her father while he planted a kiss on her forehead.

"As she grows, so grows our love, respect, and adoration … Happy 11th Birthday to my number one ❤️‍🔥🎁❤️🎁 #luckyman🍀," Renner wrote in his caption.

The Hurt Locker actor welcomed Ava with Pacheco in March 2013 when he was 42. Renner has since said in interviews that becoming a dad later on in life is “the best thing” he’s ever done.
