Jessica Chastain joins Apple TV+ drama series about hate groups

Jessica Chastain has been cast in Apple TV+'s upcoming series The Savant, focusing on a woman who infiltrates online hate groups.

The series is inspired by a real-life story originally published in Cosmopolitan in August 2019, following a woman who aimed to stop large-scale public attacks.

The writer of the feature, Andrea Stanley, will serve as a consultant on the series, which is also executive produced by Chastain under her production company banner Freckle Films (via Variety).

Melissa James Gibson will serve as writer, showrunner and executive producer for the project, and Matthew Heineman will direct.

Jessica Giles, editor-in-chief of Cosmopolitan, will also serve as exec producer, while Brian Madden, senior VP of development for Hearst Magazines, is set to produce.

The Savant marks Chastain's latest TV role after George & Tammy, a critically acclaimed Showtime series on the rocky romance between country singers Tammy Wynette and George Jones.

The Zero Dark Thirty actress has also recently appeared in another drama series focusing on a tumultuous marital relationship, starring opposite Moon Knight's Oscar Isaac in the English-language remake of Ingmar Bergman's Scenes from a Marriage.

Debuting in 2021, the five-part limited series followed Chastain as Mira Phillips and Isaac as Jonathan Levy as they pick apart their relationship among infidelities, passionate encounters and unspoken conflict boiling under the surface.

On the big screen, Chastain will next appear opposite Anne Hathaway in psychological thriller Mothers' Instincts – a remake of the 2018 French-language film of the same name – and Michel Franco's Memory, also starring Peter Sarsgaard, Merritt Wever and Josh Charles.

The Savant doesn't have a release date yet.
