These supermarket shoppers got a festive surprise when staff performed Jingle Bells - using ‘beeps’ from the shop tills.

Grocery shoppers in Neuwied, Germany, looked on as nine coordinated staff managed to belt out the famous festive tune using cash till scanners.

Hidden camera footage shows staff slowing down as shoppers queue up and then suddenly starting to coordinate the beeping noise as items go over the scanner.

Confused customers are eventually swept along into the spirit of the stunt when one of the till workers picks up a microphone and starts beat-boxing to the rhythm.

Shopper Sabine Blau, 34, posted: 'I was there, there was absolutely no warning as to what was going on. I suddenly realised that the beeping seemed to sound rather rhythmic, and then it all kicked off.

'It was really great, and a great start to the Christmas season although if they do that very often, they would soon find customers building up. It was really packed anyway.'

The fact that the staff had organise this had already been leaked onto YouTube when one of the shoppers managed to catch footage on their mobile phone of the staff at the Edekas supermarket in Neuwied, a town in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

The official video however has now been posted online offering people the chance to watch the Till Symphony Orchestra in action.

A spokesman for the management revealed that some of the customers had been actors but the majority were genuine.
