Joey and Kelsey on accidentally spoiling their “Bachelor” season: 'We tried our best'

"We will never underestimate [the fans] ever again."

Now we know, rose lovers: Voodoo really works.

When Kelsey Anderson, the 25-year-old project manager from New Orleans, first met Bachelor Joey Graziadei outside the mansion in Los Angeles, she presented the 28-year-old tennis pro with a cute voodoo doll wearing a little tux and holding a tiny racquet. "I brought something so that no matter what, you would fall in love with me," she joked.

Two months and one whirlwind romance later, Joey got down on one knee and proposed to Kelsey in Tulum, Mexico. After Monday's "unprecedented" finale, the happy couple is thrilled to take their relationship public, even if it means answering a lot of questions from Bachelor fans and nosy reporters. Joey and Kelsey graciously took some time out of their post-engagement honeymoon period to tell Entertainment Weekly all about accidentally spoiling the season with their instagram stories, freaking out over famous fans, that "we need to talk" note, and more.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Congratulations! Now that you can be in public, what is the most boring, normal couple thing that you're most looking forward to doing?

KELSEY ANDERSON: Grocery shopping.

JOEY GRAZIADEI: It's like so simple and stupid, but we just can't wait to like go to a grocery store together.

Do you each have particular grocery store shopping styles that you are gonna need to meld?

KELSEY: Well, I'm a list girl so I have to have a list before I go, otherwise I go in there aimlessly and get a bunch of things I don't need. So beforehand, sit down, curate a list of what we need, what we want to cook for the week and then go in and, you know, be real strategic with it.

JOEY: I've never made a shopping list in my life, so I'm just going off what she's gonna do.

KELSEY: I didn't know that! Never?

JOEY: Never. I just go in and it's a free-for-all... I get anxiety in a grocery store! I get lost, I'm like, "Wait, what aisle is it?"

KELSEY: Probably because you don't have a list!

JOEY: There you go.

I've read that you guys are going to spend the summer in New Orleans and then you're planning to move to New York City. What appeals to you about living in the city?

KELSEY: I love the hustle and bustle of a city and, you know, New Orleans isn't that big, so I think it would be really exciting, and a new experience for the both of us. And it's close to Philly, which is where Joey's family is.

JOEY: I love that it's gonna be a train ride away from family and friends. I've never, pretty much post-college, been able to live that close to family, and I'm really excited to be close to people.

Joey, are you going to be a tennis pro in the city?

JOEY: I don't know yet. We're still trying to figure out what's next. I did make a couple of connections in my time that was there, so I do have a couple of clubs I can look at. There might be some other things on the horizon too, so we'll wait and see.

Does one of these other things involve "dancing" and "stars"?

JOEY: People have brought that up a couple of times. That is a conversation for another time for us to figure out. Right now, I'm just excited to be off of reality TV show and engaged to this beautiful woman. That's what I'm focusing on.

Kelsey, what is one thing about Joey that you wished they showed more of on The Bachelor?

KELSEY: I wish that they showed more of his story, and how funny and fun he is. Obviously they're trying to show all the stories of these amazing women, but watching it back, I was always thinking I was like, "Oh, I wish that they had more of Joey and who he is." But I think that still shined through, even if it wasn't as much as I would have liked to see. [Laughs]

Joey, same question for you about Kelsey.

JOEY: My that my answer would have been like her personality, how goofy she is. But in these last couple episodes, you got it in full force. I was like, 'Yes, it's happening! People are seeing it!' It was nice to finally see people get that side of her.

All right guys, we have to talk about the fact that you accidentally spoiled the season back in February by posting Instagram stories and TikToks from the same house during one of your "happy couple" visits. Is there anything you want to say to the sleuths who put that together?

JOEY: Bravo!

KELSEY: Y'all are good!

JOEY: We tried our best. I was in front of a white wall. She went outside. We are shocked that they put two and two together. We will never underestimate them ever again.

There are a lot of famous fans of The Bachelor — who were you most surprised to learn watched your season?

KELSEY: I saw Kylie Jenner posted a story after the finale, and was like "The Bachelor finale got us" or something like that. And I was like, "Kylie Jenner watched me?"

JOEY: She lost her mind. I was like, "She knows who you are, Kelsey! It's a big moment."

KELSEY: There's been so much support this season, and it's really exciting to see.

Kelsey, we need to talk about the "we need to talk" note, which almost gave poor Joey a heart attack. All you wanted to tell him was, basically, "I miss you," so true or false: Producers asked you to write the words "we need to talk" on the note?

KELSEY: I think, you know, I wrote it. So, I mean, at the end of the day, I wrote it. I wrote it and gave it to Joey and that's how it happened.

Did you choose those words?

JOEY: We joked about it after, too, when she was trying to figure out how to word it. She was like, "I don't even know what I would say [if I had to do it] again. Like, I've been trying to think of what I would change it to." She made a joke, like, "Can we talk?" ... It's a hard thing because you don't want to give too much away, but she wanted to let me know that she wanted to talk to me. So yes, I wish she used different words but it is what it is.

Joey, you now wear the mantle of Best Bachelor Ever. What advice do you have for future Bachelors?

JOEY: Yeah, uh, you can give me that proclaimed title. I'm never gonna say it myself. But I really do think that what I tried to do was just be as honest as I could be, whether that's the moments where I was feeling down, whether it was the moments where I was feeling good, when I was trying to be aware of the words I was speaking to the women. I really did think a lot of it through — almost sometimes to a fault. But that would be the best advice I can give is just take your time, think through your decisions, try to make sure you can look back on this and be like, "I really don't have any regrets."

Kelsey, another reason viewers loved this season so much was how much the women supported each other — especially the final four. What advice would you have for future Bachelor contestants?

KELSEY: I would say being able to separate the Bachelor and your connection, and then also like your friendships and that connection. I feel like whenever the girls were talking about Joey, if I heard it, I was like, "Oh, that's their Joey. It's not my Joey." [Laughs] I also journaled so much and that was really helpful for me to process my feelings and figure it all out. And I just always kept my connection with Joey close to me; I never really talked about it with the other women. I didn't think that was needed.

The other thing that we learned on your finale is that we have a new Bachelorette, Jenn Tran. What advice would you guys give the guys who are hoping to win her heart?

JOEY: From being on that side, I think one of the most important things for the contestants is the focus on your individual connection. That's what I would tell everyone. Especially with a lot of guys, there can be a lot of different personalities and egos coming together. I think what's really most important is folks on your individual connection, let yourself have the opportunity to create something special with Jenn. That's better for both sides.
