John Barrowman has cancelled his upcoming tour due to slow ticket sales in the UK.

The actor and singer was set to tour the UK in 2023 in support of his latest album Centre Stage but the nine date tour has now been pulled.

Writing on Instagram, Barrowman said: "It is with huge regret that we have decided to cancel the UK tour."

The former Doctor Who star then revealed why he was having to cancel the tour: "Unfortunately, tickets sales in certain parts of the UK have been slow, and with the increased costs of touring it is no longer economically viable to continue."

He added: "This is a decision that has not been taken lightly, and I know many of my fans will be very upset, as am I."

Barrowman went on to highlight how difficult he had found the last few years: "Personally I am devastated and like many people I have found the last years extremely difficult, possibly the hardest few years of my life. When it gets tough it is sometimes better to stop and re-evaluate and that is exactly what I am going to do. I am so sorry to all my fans."

Barrowman became embroiled in controversy after it was revealed he had been exposing himself on the set of Doctor Who and during other productions.

Julie Gardner, an executive producer of Doctor Who and Torchwood, confirmed that Barrowman had been reprimanded in 2008 for his on-set behaviour following a complaint.

In a statement, Barrowman said: "With the benefit of hindsight, I understand that upset may have been caused by my exuberant behaviour and I have apologised for this previously. Since my apology in November 2008, my understanding and behaviour have also changed. At no point was I ever made aware of any sexual harassment, bullying, or sexually predatory behaviour on set and I was certainly not aware of the allegations about Noel Clarke."

Barrowman was also axed from his judging role on Dancing on Ice as a result of the controversy.
