John Legend has no plans to slow down this summer.

Despite announcing in May that he'll be taking a break from coaching the next season of The Voice, the EGOT winner, 45, currently has his hands full performing on his An Evening with John Legend tour running through October, working on his upcoming new album and writing the music for a Broadway adaption of the 1933 Fannie Hurst novel Imitation of Life.

"There's always something going on," he says with a smile during a catch-up with PEOPLE at his home studio.

He's also busy with his unisex skincare line, Loved01, which he and his wife Chrissy Teigen incorporated into their new collaboration with IPSY on their Icon Box.

"People can pick all kinds of products for their IPSY box, and Loved01 offers a really amazing range of products," he says. "Loved01 is all around our house. We all legitimately use it all the time."

Legend says his daily skincare routine includes Loved01's moisturizer, the face and body wash and the face and body oil. He also uses the exfoliating cleanser every few days and would use the cleansing wipes after a day of taping The Voice.

As for Teigen, 38, Legend says she loves the exfoliating cleanser and the shave cream.

"We always use each other's products, and I feel like she was always a little bit ahead of me when it came to knowing the cool products to get and what to use to take care of your skin and your body in the right way," Legend says. "So I've always been watching her, sometimes stealing her products. I feel like all that learning has gone into us forming Loved01 too."

When creating Loved01, Legend was focused on creating affordable products for melanin-rich skin, a demographic that has long been underrepresented in the skincare market.

"We spend a lot of time doing testing and development around melanin-rich skin," he says. "One of the issues that people with darker skin tones deal with more is moisture loss, so all of our products are really focused on moisture. They have sea buckthorn oil and rose hip oil, and all these other ingredients that help you stay moisturized and hydrated. The moisturizing products feel so luxurious and smooth and beautiful, but they don't break the bank."

Legend says his first introduction to skincare came from "dating" women "really into it," and Teigen has "definitely influenced my ritual a lot."

"When you're in the public eye, of course you care about how you look, but you also want to do things to take care of your skin that are sustaining and healthy," he says. "As I've grown and tried different things, I've learned how important it is to be intentional about self-care, and that's what Loved01 is really all about."

Legend says a date night at home with Teigen is all about "self-care."

"We cook for each other, play games and just have a really loving, good time together," he says. "I'm a little more into games than Chrissy is, but we both love to take care of ourselves. We'll have a glass of wine, cook and probably watch Bravo."

In June, Legend and Teigen got to take date night to the next level in Europe, as he performed his tour dates there. He says his decision to step away from The Voice has allowed him "a little more time to tour."

"I'll be out on the road a bit more this year, which is good because it's in the summer so the kids can come to a lot of the shows," he says. "I don't like touring during the fall and winter when they're at school because I feel like I'm going to miss them a lot. So I'm trying to get most of it done during the summer, which will be good."

While he says he and Teigen's younger children Wren, 12 months, and Esti, 17 months, don't quite yet understand what he does for a living, his older kids Miles, 6, and Luna, 8, do.

"They've been to a lot of my concerts, and they've come and seen me work here at the studio," he says. "In fact, I'm going to have them come and record a little bit for my next project today, [because] I need some kid voices. So yeah, they know what I do for a living. They love it."

Legend says he's soaking in every moment before his kids are "going to be too cool to listen to their own dad's music."

Right now, Legend says Luna and Miles are "a lot of fun because they're independent enough you don't have to watch them every second, but they're also such interesting personalities."

"They're funny, they're smart, and they're very engaging," he says. "So I enjoy just hanging out with them, playing sports in the backyard, swimming, playing games, all that stuff. They're just fully engaged in the world and they have so many questions and so many thoughts, and it's really just interesting to find out about what they're thinking and what they learn in school, and how it can help them with their homework and all those things."

While the younger ones are "still barely forming words," he says Esti is "a little boss."

"She's really starting to have a little personality," he says. "It's pretty clear."
