Johor crown prince’s view manipulated, says Nur Jazlan

The crown prince of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim's view that the state had every right to secede if the terms in the agreement between Johor and the Federation of Malaya were breached was "misinterpreted and manipulated" by certain media organisations, Deputy Home Minister Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed said. He said the crown prince was talking about football and not discussing the Federal Constitution in his recent interview with sports website FourthOfficial.com, Malay news portal, Sinar Harian reported. Nur Jazlan, who is Pulai MP, said the prince was giving his views on the current affairs in football, but his remarks was manipulated by several media, namely newsportals. "I have read the original interview and found that the Tunku Mahkota Johor (Tunku Ismail) was not talking about the matter (Johor having the right to secede from Malaysia) or the constitution," he was quoted as saying. Nur Jazlan was commenting on a news portal report that Tunku Ismail had said all states, including Johor, had the right to leave the Federation of Malaya if the terms of the agreement between the state and the federation were not honoured. He said the Constitution carried a clause that defined the rights of the states in the Federation. "Johor has rights that cannot be questioned, as stated in the Constitution," he said. He also asked all media organisations to stop pitting the palace against the federal government, and defiling the royal institution. – October 18, 2015.
