Jonnie Irwin praises NHS mobile scan unit in carpark after latest check up

Jonnie Irwin has praised the NHS after admitting his surprise at being called in for medical scans to a leisure centre carpark.

The A Place In The Sun presenter - who announced in November 2022 he has terminal lung cancer which has spread to his brain - updated fans as he attended a mobile scan unit for his latest check up.

Irwin told his 205k Instagram followers in a video posted online: "I've got some scans today. Not in a hospital but in a leisure centre carpark.

"MRI and CT unit in this. Surprising."

The TV presenter added: "I actually had a great experience. We were able to park almost on the doorstep, no queue and done n dusted in under 15 minutes. Well done NHS."

Irwin, 49, was given six months by doctors to live back in 2020 when he received his diagnosis and has said doctors did not expect him to see 2023.

The Escape To The Country presenter - who is parent to four-and-a-half-year-old Rex and three-year-old twins Rafa and Cormac with wife Jess - recently admitted he has "up days and down days."

Chemotherapy and cancer drugs have helped extend the initial prognosis and the TV presenter is determined to make the most of any time he has left with his family.

He recently shared pictures of himself having the "best fun" with the "very best people" on his family holiday.

Irwin told BBC's Morning Live in July: "I'm really good. I have up days and down days, but today's very much an up day. The family are great and very noisy."

He recently shared a post of himself cycling with all three of his sons in a trailer, even though he admitted to being "a lot weaker these days".

The TV star was diagnosed with lung cancer in August 2020 after his vision went blurry while away filming Channel 4 property show A Place In The Sun. But he kept his diagnosis a secret for two years.

In July Irwin revealed that he has been receiving palliative care for the past three years, insisting that hospice care did not have to mean "doom and gloom".

Irwin attended the TRIC Awards in June and said: "I wanted to show that because you have cancer it doesn't mean you are a different person.

“You can still work. Look at me now. I don't think the doctors were expecting me to make 2023 but here I am and I'm available at work."
