The production issues of season 2 of Jujutsu Kaisen have been highlighted after a key animator on the series posted on X about their dissatisfaction with episode 17's finished state.

The anime episode, which features impressive action sequences starring the show's Big Bad Sukuna, received praise on social media for its art direction.

However, Roccia Nobili, who worked on the episode as an animation director, wrote in a post after the show aired: "Episode #17 of JJK S2 is not finished. I am happy so many people are liking it, but I wish the staff was able to finish it. As it stands right now, what is present on screen is 30% of the intended vision.

"I am so frustrated over it. I wish there was more time to finish more scenes... as it stands right now, there are too many errors for me to find any enjoyment in the episode."

The comments from Roccia Nobili are the latest in a series of complaints about Jujutsu Kaisen season 2's production, that began after the Shibuya Incident Arc started airing.

Staff working on the show have suggested that issues in animation quality have been down to tight deadlines and poor management from production company MAPPA, which has come under fire in the past for poor working conditions.

Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 episode 16 director Itsuki Tsuchigami said in a post: "Although it is unpleasant to be praised in the name of the company, I have to be grateful for the hard work and dedication of the company’s production and filming staff. They are contributing immensely to the work despite the unavoidable circumstances."

Similarly, Sota Shigetsugu, who worked as a key animator on multiple episodes, posted after episode 16 aired: "The worst cycle is when the staff members all somehow manage to complete a schedule that would be impossible to meet under normal circumstances, while seeing hell, and the higher-ups who only saw the results misunderstand and neglect to improve, thinking 'It’s not that bad, it can be done!'"

Jujutsu Kaisen fans have been quick to defend the work done by the animation staff, and praised them individually for their hard work in challenging circumstances.

Jujutsu Kaisen is available to watch on Crunchyroll.
