‘And Just Like That’ Costume Designer Shares Inspiration Behind Show’s Fashion: ‘Women Can Wear Anything’

One of the show’s costume designers, Danny Santiago, recently sat down for an exclusive interview with E! News to share rare details about the fashion in the show’s second season. While discussing the cast—Sarah Jessica Parker (Carrie), Cynthia Nixon (Miranda) and Kristin Davis (Charlotte)—Santiago revealed that he swears by one fashion rule: They must feel comfortable.

“I don’t feel that we dress them for how they’ve aged,” Santiago told the outlet. “Women can wear anything that they want at any age. I don’t think there’s any rule to anything, other than the fact that they feel good with what they have on.”
Santiago also explained how personal style develops over time, adding, “You get to know your body better as you get older, and you feel more comfortable with certain things, like silhouettes that you know work better for you than others. You have more confidence in yourself and wear things that you feel good in.”
He continued, “You’re dressing more for yourself than dressing for somebody else.”

Santiago also shared details about Miranda’s fashion in And Just Like That season one and how it differs from Sex and the City. “Miranda, the change with her, was that she was a lawyer, and now she’s back at school again,” he said. “So, she was a little bit more casual. She went ahead and let her hair go natural, and she was gray. So, we had fun playing with that color, giving her a little bit of a different palette than what we typically saw with her.”
