Justin Hartley Keeps Cool While Cracking Mysteries in “Tracker”: 'Never Let Panic Take the Wheel' (Exclusive)

PEOPLE can exclusively debut the first trailer for the 'This Is Us' alum's new CBS series, which follows professional "rewardist" Colter Shaw and will premiere after Super Bowl LVIII

Justin Hartley is ready to solve some mysteries as he takes on his newest role!

The This Is Us alum, 46, stars as the ultimate survivalist in CBS' new series, Tracker — and PEOPLE can exclusively debut the show's first trailer.

The upcoming action drama follows Colter Shaw (Hartley), "a lone-wolf survivalist who roams the country as a reward seeker, using his expert tracking skills to help private citizens and law enforcement solve all manner of mysteries while contending with his own fractured family," according to the network.

“You collect rewards, right?” a woman asks Shaw in the opening of the trailer.

“I prefer the term 'rewardist,'" he replies, as he cautiously makes his way through a forest during one of his many quests. "Everyone's looking for something."

Elsewhere in the clip, Shaw is seen rendering medical aid to an injured woman in the rugged wilderness.

“I’m a professional. This is how I make my living,” Shaw says. “How you survive is you make quick, smart decisions. You remain calm. You never let panic take the wheel."

When a pick-up truck nearly falls off a cliff, Shaw seemingly rescues the driver, who asks how he can "repay" him.

"Just the reward money is fine," Shaw says. "I believe it was 50 grand?"

From there, viewers see cutaway shots of Shaw running through the woods, being dragged by a pickup truck, being held at gunpoint and even finding romance.

"You're gonna survive, let's get you home," he tells the injured woman in a final moment as he lifts her to safety.

The CBS original series was created by Ben H. Winters based on The Never Game by Jeffery Deaver. Hartley not only stars as the no-nonsense mystery solver, but also serves as an executive producer.

Tracker also features Robin Weigert as Teddi Bruin, Abby McEnany as Velma Bruin and Eric Graise as Bob Exley.

In June 2022, Hartley spoke with Entertainment Weekly about his role in the new series. "It's something so different for me, something I haven't done in a while," he said, admitting that the new role was "very physical."

"The guy's an expert tracker, he takes the law into his own hands. He doesn't have to play by the same rules necessarily that the lawyers and the cops have to play by, and he's got this mercenary side to him," he added. "We also have a lot of levity in our show because he was raised off the grid. He doesn't get a lot of pop culture references, which lends itself to some hilarious, hilarious comedy."
