Kate Hudson has made a plea for male movie stars to make more rom-coms, though admitted they don’t tend to gravitate to the genre.

Hudson is familiar with the genre following appearances in You, Me and Dupree, Bride Wars and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, but revealed to The View that her male counterparts are harder to convince.

“It’s hard to get male movie stars to make rom-coms,” she admitted. “As long as we can get more Marvel guys to like, you know, ‘Hey, come to a rom-com!,’ I think that that’s a big part of the formula, too.

“I think it’s about the writing, and how we’re investing in telling the story of the writing and the directors. If you look at the classic rom-coms or movies that last forever, they had the best writers. So it’s more about how the studios are investing in the talents.”

Hudson’s most recent role was in A Little White Lie, which saw the actor star alongside Michael Shannon, Don Johnson and Zach Braff. The plot follows a handyman (Shannon) who is mistaken for a famous writer with the same name, leading to amusing consequences.

One of Hudson’s more recent projects was Glass Onion, the second instalment in Rian Johnson’s Knives Out saga, with the director recently revealing that work on another sequel had now begun.

“It’s coming along,” he teased to The Wrap. “I obviously couldn’t work during the strike, and now that it’s over, I’m diving in full force. I’ve got the premise, I’ve got the setting, I’ve got what the movie is in my head. It’s just a matter of writing the damn thing.”
