Kate Middleton included a poignant tribute to those diagnosed with cancer in her recent video announcement centered around her own diagnosis with the disease.

In a video message released on Friday, the Princess of Wales, 42, revealed that she has cancer and is receiving treatment. The royal received the diagnosis following her abdominal surgery in January, after post-operative tests "found cancer had been present." Kate is now undergoing treatment.

In the emotional clip, which was filmed earlier in the week and shows Princess Kate sitting on a bench in the gardens outside Windsor Castle, a row of yellow daffodils can be seen blossoming from a shrub in the background behind her.

The daffodil is a symbol utilized by cancer organizations around the world to offer hope to those dealing with cancer. Known to blossom in spring, the flower is perfectly chosen as it signals rebirth and new beginnings. It is also often assimilated with resilience and reassurance, as it returns during the same time each year.

Speaking about her diagnosis on Friday, Princess Kate began her video by thanking well-wishers for their "wonderful messages of support" amid what she described as having been "an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family." She said that husband Prince William has been by her side and has been “a great source of comfort and reassurance too.”

The princess said the diagnosis was a "huge shock” and that she and William, 41, "have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family."

"As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment," she continued, adding that their children, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5, were told of the diagnosis before the public announcement.

The Princess of Wales concluded the video by acknowledging those dealing with cancer. "At this time, I am also thinking of all those whose lives have been affected by cancer. For everyone facing this disease, in whatever form, please do not lose faith or hope. You are not alone." she said.
