Kate Middleton makes surprise cameo in Eurovision final with Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra

Eurovision has hardly begun and already we have our first surprise of the evening: Kate Middleton.

On Saturday night (13 May), 26 countries will compete for a chance at Eurovision glory.

The TV broadcast – currently shown on BBC One in the UK and Peacock in the US – opened with a performance by last year’s Ukrainian winners, Kalush Orchestra.

The UK – who came second in the 2022 competition thanks to Sam Ryder’s show-stopping performance of “Rocket Man” –  is hosting Eurovision this year on behalf of Ukraine, who are unable to do so due to the country’s ongoing war with Russia.

Kalush Orchestra opened this year’s grand final with a performance of their winning track “Stefania”.

Viewers were shocked to see cameos not only from Ryder but British royalty, Kate Middleton.

The Princess of Wales made a brief appearance, providing a few bars of piano for the track.

On screen, Middleton could be seen playing the piano dressed in a glamorous one-shoulder blue evening gown and dangling earrings.

The clip was recorded earlier this month in the Crimson Drawing Room of Windsor Castle.

Representing the UK this year is singer-songwriter Mae Muller. Her chances of replicating Ryder’s 2022 success, however, aren’t looking great – at least according to the bookies.

Instead, it is Sweden’s returning champion Loreen who is the current favourite. You can read our Q&A with the singer here.
