Simply mutter the words "Scandinavian brand" and any fashion girlie within the vicinity will immediately take note. With the likes of Ganni, Stine Goya, Baum und Pferdgarten and Cecilie Bahnsen all emerging from Northern Europe in recent years, we can't help but covet the 'chic minimalism with an edgy twist' style MO the region has become known for.

The growing popularity of Copenhagen Fashion Week proves any label heralding from Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland now has the potential to rival fashion houses showing at the Big Four. That's the unofficial fashion capitals of the world, New York, London, Milan and Paris.

Taking a more understated approach but still possessing that je ne sais quoi (or whatever the equivalent phrase in Danish is), Anine Bing effortlessly merges Scandi cool with a relaxed American aesthetic. And if it wasn't already at the top of the list of cool girl brands, the label's appointment of Kate Moss – AKA the OG cool girl – as the global face of the brand has certainly secured its position.

Born in Denmark and growing up in Sweden, the model-turned-influencer-turned-designer launched her eponymous label eleven years ago from the garage of her LA home. The first collection consisted of just two pairs of denim, a white T-shirt and a black leather jacket. The trio of pieces have since become signature Anine Bing styles and remain cornerstones of each collection, now accompanied by statement tees and sweatshirts, oversized tailoring and luxurious accessories. All in a neutral colour palette, naturally.

Chances are, it's those graphic jumpers you've mostly likely spotted either IRL or on your Instagram feed. The crew neck designs have become cult pieces, none more so than the grey sweater printed with Kate Moss's headshot on the front as part of a collaboration between Bing and photographer Terry O'Neil.

A longtime source of inspiration for the designer, the partnership with Kate seems like a no-brainer. And having been lucky enough to preview the AW23 collection, as modelled by Kate herself, we can say it really is a match made in heaven.

Best-selling styles have been updated with rock 'n' roll undertones, and masculine suiting silhouettes are contrasted with feminine fabrics such as delicate lace and silk trims. All in all, it's packed with the timeless wardrobe staples Anine Bing does best.

As for Kate, she's also doing what she does best, bringing her signature indie sleaze aesthetic. Just take a look at the leather suit worn with nothing underneath the boxy blazer or the leather thigh-high, pointed-toe, kitten-heel boots worn over skinny jeans. Oh yes, they're back. But if they're good enough Kate, we could just be convinced.

That's our new season shopping list sorted. Shop the Anine Bing AW23 collection from 5th September.
