Kathy Griffin Reveals She’s Undergone Second Vocal Cord Surgery: ‘Worth It If I Get Some of My Voice Back’
The comedian said she has "some scarring and swelling," following the surgery as she shared a photo of her throat

Kathy Griffin shared a photo following her second vocal cord surgeryKathy Griffin is sharing an update after undergoing vocal cord surgery.
On Wednesday, June 12, the comedian, 63, shared a photo on Instagram showing the gauze bandage on her throat covering where the surgery was done.
"Vocal cord surgery went well. 🙏 As you can see some scarring and swelling. It will be worth it if I get some of my voice back.🙏🙏🙏," Griffin captioned the post.

The day before, Griffin shared a video on Instagram telling fans what she was having done the next morning. "I'm getting an implant in my left vocal cord, which was left permanently paralyzed during my lung cancer surgery, where they took out half my left lung," the actress explained.
"I also have an aperture, which is a tear above my vocal cords and that's why sometimes when I'm doing stand-up my voice goes to a higher pitch," she continued.
"So, anyway, I'm never nervous before surgery and I've had quite a few. But I am a little nervous about this one 'cause it's my voice and I've already gone through it once with the voice problem," Griffin added.
As part of her recovery, Griffin won't be able to talk for the next couple of weeks. "Anyway, wish me luck, and I can't talk at all for two weeks, which is going to drive me crazy. So I'll be watching a lot of TikTok, and I won't be making any," she told her followers.
Griffin added that she's "always trying to make the voice better," concluding: "This is the last thing I can say for two weeks."

The Emmy-winning star's My Life on the PTSD-List tour is expected to resume on Aug. 23 at Connecticut's District Music Hall.
The star's latest surgery comes after she underwent an operation on her left vocal cord in May 2023. While speaking to PEOPLE the following month, Griffin said the procedure on her vocal cord — which was damaged nearly two years earlier when she was treated for lung cancer — “was really gnarly."

Griffin revealed in an Instagram post in August 2021 that she had been diagnosed with lung cancer and underwent a lobectomy to remove the disease in the same month. That November, she confirmed that she'd been given the all-clear, and has since spoken openly about some of the challenges she's faced due to a paralyzed left vocal cord.
She told PEOPLE, “The thing that's been really crazy and kind of like, a mindf--k, is that when I had cancer, I had no symptoms, then I got the surgery where they took out half my left lung. And now it's like, I sound and feel like I have cancer."
“The thing that's frustrating is I actually sound like I'm in pain, but I'm not,” she added.
