Kato Shigeaki to release first novel

23 Nov – Kato Shigeaki, a member from the Japanese band NEWS, would be making his debut as a novelist when his first novel is published in January next year.

According to Tokyograph, the novel is titled "Pink and Gray" and tells the story of two childhood friends who enter into show business, with one becoming a major star while the other becomes frustrated as being an extra, as their friendship slowly falls apart and they finally reunite.

"I guarantee that it will have a shocking impact on whoever reads it," he commented on his upcoming work.

Shigeaki said that he had always wanted to be a novelist and wanted to publish his first novel before he was 25. He said that "Pink and Gray" was a story that he wanted to write when he was 20 and it was written sometime between mid-February and late-March this year, sometimes spending more than 12 hours in front of the computer.

Shigeaki would be the first talent from Johnny and Associates Inc. to become a novelist and is already planning his next work.

"I will continue to writing after this, and someday I would like to win the Naoki Prize," revealed the 24-year-old idol who intends to pursue his career as a member of NEWS and a novelist.

"Pink and Gray" is published by Kadokawa Shouten and would be available in Japanese bookstores on January 28, 2012.
