Keir Starmer shares inspiration behind general election fight

Sir Keir Starmer has said growing up “working class” has inspired him to fight in the general election.

The Labour leader shared a new video on his social media account on Thursday 23 May, reflecting on his childhood.

“My dad was a toolmaker, he worked in a factory. My mum was a nurse, but she was also sadly very ill. She couldn’t work for very long. It was tough going at times,” Sir Keir says in the video.

“One of the things that helps me in the cost of living crisis we’re going through now is knowing what it’s like.”

Sir Keir added that he has been “fighting” all his life and that he is ready to fight for the UK as prime minister.
