Keira Knightley to star in new Netflix thriller series Black Doves
Keira Knightley has been announced as the lead star for Black Doves, a new thriller series from Netflix.
Written by Joe Barton, best known for his work on Giri/Haji and The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself, Black Doves sees Knightley play Helen, a woman with a secret identity who embarks on a passionate affair which will “endanger her carefully constructed web of subterfuge.”
After her lover is consumed by London’s “shadowy underworld”, Helen is given backup by her employers in the shape of Sam, with the pair going on the run against “a backdrop of diplomatic tension and Christmas” (via Variety).

The logline for the series reads: “Black Doves is the story of two old friends coming back together, finding trust in one another in a world where trust can get you killed and, ultimately, changing the course of each other’s lives forever.”
The announcement for Black Doves came during a huge press event for the streaming service’s UK base on Wednesday, with the headline unveiling being the sixth season of Black Mirror.
Returning after a four-year hiatus, creator Charlie Brooker recently teased the latest batch of episodes, saying that they would “stretch the parameters of what a Black Mirror episode even is.”

“I’ve always felt that Black Mirror should feature stories that are entirely distinct from one another, and keep surprising people - and myself - or else what’s the point?,” he said. “It should be a series that can’t be easily defined, and can keep reinventing itself.
“We’ve also got a few new elements, including some I’ve previously sworn blind the show would never do, to stretch the parameters of what a Black Mirror episode even is,” he added. “The stories are all still tonally Black Mirror through-and-through - but with some crazy swings and more variety than ever before.”
There is currently no release date for Black Doves. Black Mirror airs on Netflix.
