Kevin Bacon explains how he lost some lip skin from an exploding boiled egg: 'Bacon burned by egg'

Sixth-degree burns of Kevin Bacon.

We've all been there. Your union's on strike so you go on tour with the band you founded with your brother. You steal a boiled egg from one cheap dive hotel, bring it to another, and next thing you know, the skin of your lips has come off on a towel.

Tale as old as time!

Kevin Bacon brought up this slightly terrifying, totally gross anecdote while on Late Night with Seth Meyers promoting his role in the new film, Beverly Hill Cop: Axel F.

During the SAG-AFTRA strike, Bacon got the old band back together, the Bacon Brothers, and did a little touring.

“You stay in these hotels that are not very high-end,” said Bacon, who formed the band with his brother, Michael, in 1995. “They often have the free breakfast which is like the waffles and the eggs and a couple of pieces of Cheerio.”

On his way from "one lousy hotel to another," the Footloose star grabbed a couple boiled eggs for the road. At his new lousy hotel and feeling peckish, Bacon popped the peeled boiled eggs into the microwave for a minute just to heat 'em up. One of them explodes in the microwave, causing a mess, but an undeterred, and still hungry, Bacon takes a bite into the other egg. Bad idea.

"It’s a grenade going off in my mouth," the 65-year-old said. "It exploded in my mouth.”

Bacon then grabbed a cold towel, put it on his face, and takes it off, only to find that "the skin of my lips is on the towel." He called a doctor who prescribed some medication, but for the next month, the actor's lips were bright red.

At the top of his story, Bacon had asked Meyers to consider what the New York Post headline of this incident would say. Meyers offered "Kevin Not Smart," but the veteran thesp had one at the ready in his back pocket: "Bacon Burned by Egg."
